The popular Castro location of Peet's Coffee at 2257 Market Street is set to close at the end of January.
Hoodline was first alerted to news of the closure by social media posts over the weekend.
Castro resident and Peet's regular Scott James first broke the news on Sunday. "Sadness. The Castro’s Peet's Coffee is abruptly closing at the end of the month," said James.

"Neighbors have come here for decades," added James. Peet's Coffee Castro location is often filled with customers catching up with friends and working remotely.
When James asked staff why the often busy Peet's was closing, he was told, “It’s the little things.”
With approximately 300 locations, Peet's Coffee, and its parent company JDE Peet's, is currently being acquired by Keurig Dr Pepper for $18 billion.

Peet's spokesperson Stephanie O'Brien confirmed the closure to Hoodline.
"Peet’s has made the difficult decision to close a number of Peet’s Coffee locations by the end of January 2026," said O'Brien. "These closures reflect a broader effort to align our business with long-term growth priorities and current market conditions."
"We are deeply grateful to our incredible employees and loyal customers for their continued commitment to the brand," added O'Brien. "As we move forward, we remain dedicated to the quality, craftsmanship, and heritage that have defined Peet’s for the past 60 years, while embracing new opportunities to innovate and grow."
When asked, O'Brien did not provide a list of which locations would be closing. Hoodline can confirm that the Cole Valley Peet's at 919 Cole is also closing.
Currently, Peet's operates 22 locations in San Francisco. At this time, it's unclear how many locations will remain open.
Peet's closure comes just four months after Starbucks closed its only Castro location.
Since its heyday more than 10 years ago, the Castro Coffee Cluster has continued to contract.
