A Chickamauga man, identified as Jeffrey Wade Anthony, 47, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for violent behavior that he exhibited on two separate occasions at the Catoosa County Jail. Anthony, who has been described by prosecutors as having an extensive criminal record, faced a nonjury trial before Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Melissa Hise, where he was convicted of both assaults.
As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the initial altercation took place on February 23, 2023, while Anthony was in jail for violating his probation. During this incident, he was caught on video pushing an inmate into a corner and punching him. Following his sentence for the probation violation, Anthony returned to the jail to face the charges related to this attack. However, on an unrelated note, Anthony was involved in another assault at the same facility, where surveillance footage captured him punching and striking another inmate who was resting in his bunk on April 14, 2025.
According to information from the Chattanoogan, Anthony's most recent conviction resulted in a 40-year sentence, with the mandate that he serves the first 15 years in prison without the possibility of parole. This sentence reflects the gravity of the offenses and the state's intention to uphold order and safety within its correctional facilities.
The prosecution was led by Assistant District Attorney Grace Talbot, with the assistance from Assistant District Attorney David Wolfe. The Acting District Attorney, Deanna Reisman, praised the verdict, asserting, "Violent acts committed by inmates in our local jails create a dangerous environment for our local jailers, law enforcement officers and other inmates. The District Attorney’s Office will prosecute individuals who commit these violent acts while in confinement to the fullest extent of the law," as noted by the Chattanoogan.
