Taquería La Reina made its Cicero debut on Monday, Dec. 15, with a full ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6026 W. 26th Street. The family-run restaurant is pitching homestyle Mexican plates, from barbacoa and birria to pozole and hearty caldos, and the grand opening pulled in a crowd of neighbors and supporters. Owner Jose Lopez stood with his daughter María and other family members as the town joined the celebration.
The scissors came out at 10 a.m. on Dec. 15, with First Lady Diana Dominick, members of the town's Board of Trustees, and Business License Director Ismael Vargas in attendance, according to the Town of Cicero. Vargas thanked municipal staff for helping the restaurant meet licensing requirements, and Dominick offered a public welcome as the release noted the town's commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs. Officials and community members then crowded in with the Lopez family for the ribbon-cutting photo.
What Taquería La Reina Is Serving
Taquería La Reina leans on family recipes and traditional plates such as barbacoa, birria, carne en su jugo, menudo, and pozole, and offers caldos like beef, chicken, and siete mares, according to the Town of Cicero. The owners also promised daily specials and a customer guarantee: “If you don't like it, you don't pay for it,” the release says. The kitchen will serve grilled meats alongside those stews and broths to appeal to a broad neighborhood clientele.
Family Ties And Local Roots
Members of the Lopez family, including María López and her young children, joined owner Jose Lopez at the ribbon-cutting, symbolizing a three-generation culinary tradition the family brings to the neighborhood, as reported by Lawndale News. The family also operates La Guadalupana and said they chose Cicero for its strong sense of community. Lopez thanked town staff and neighbors for their support during the opening.
