Amid bone-chilling temperatures and icy threats, the Cincinnati Fire Department has gone into full winter response mode. In a recent social media post on Facebook, the department has highlighted the tireless efforts of its firefighters to secure their vehicles against the slippery elements. "Your Cincinnati Firefighters are currently adding cables or chains to all apparatuses to assist with slippage on icy roads," the post read, underscoring the proactive measures being taken to maintain emergency response capabilities despite hazardous weather conditions.
The operational policy in place is such that once a Fire Apparatus Operator encounters ice on the city streets, a call is made to alert all Companies to address the issue. This is meant to rapidly ensure that all units are equally prepared to safely navigate the treacherous conditions. However, the department also used the opportunity to advise the public to remain off the roads unless necessary, marking an effort to not only safeguard the responders but the community at large.
Crediting its staff members, the Cincinnati Fire Department gave a "Shout out to Engine 2 and FAO Erik Vonstein for showing us how it’s done," illustrating the hands-on approach and the dedication of their team when facing the wintry challenges. This acknowledgment serves to highlight the department's appreciation for its crew's diligence and expertise, which often goes unnoticed behind the scenes of public safety and emergency response.
