"Your Cincinnati Firefighters are currently adding cables or chains to all apparatuses to assist with slippage on icy roads," the post read, underscoring the proactive measures being taken to maintain emergency response capabilities despite hazardous weather conditions.
The operational policy in place is such that once a Fire Apparatus Operator encounters ice on the city streets, a call is made to alert all Companies to address the issue. This is meant to rapidly ensure that all units are equally prepared to safely navigate the treacherous conditions. However, the department also used the opportunity to advise the public to remain off the roads unless necessary, marking an effort to not only safeguard the responders but the community at large.
