Cincinnati authorities are actively seeking a man they say is connected to a shooting that took place at Government Square in the heart of downtown. Court records have named Ronrico Hampton, a 40-year-old resident of Roselawn, as the suspect. The incident, which began with a discord on a Metro bus in the early hours of January 3, escalated to violence just outside the vehicle on East Fifth Street. FOX19 reports that, according to his criminal complaint, Hampton is charged with felonious assault.
Surveillance footage, released by the police, appears to show the man authorities are eager to apprehend slapping and subsequently shooting the victim following a heated exchange. The victim, whose identity has remained undisclosed, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and is expected to survive. Local12 stated that the police hope this surveillance photo will lead quickly to the suspect's capture.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement urges anyone with information on Hampton's whereabouts to step forward. This critical role of public assistance is echoed in a plea from the Cincinnati Police Department, shared by WLWT, asking individuals to aid in identifying the shooter initially seen in a photo released Monday. With the warrant issued for Hampton's arrest still active, Detective Barney Blank can be contacted with any leads at 513-352-5442, as stated in court records.
In a community wrestling with the aftermath of such violence, the search intensifies for the man caught on video pulling the trigger and striking another person in the back. Information leading to an arrest is not only invaluable to the authorities but to a city trying desperately to maintain a semblance of safety and order in its public spaces. Those with knowledge concerning the case are also encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at (513) 352-3040, according to a call for witnesses by FOX19.
