Following a tense search by local authorities, 19-year-old Ricardo Bracamonte Monjaras is now in custody after turning himself in for the attempted murder at Estrella’s Market in Windsor. The Town of Windsor Police Department updated the public via social media, stating that Monjaras surrendered to the Santa Rosa Police Department at around 8:00 PM yesterday, a day after the shooting incident occurred.
Monjaras, a Clearlake resident, is suspected of injuring two individuals during an altercation that swiftly escalated to gunfire at the local market. After an initial departure from the scene, Monjaras allegedly re-entered and ensued to open fire, as recounted by police. The victims included an adult male and a store employee who was struck by a ricocheting bullet. Both victims were hospitalized but are "expected to make a full recovery," according to a report by Hoodline.
Following his surrender, Monjaras was transferred to the Sonoma County Jail, and his bail has been set at a steep $1,000,000. The Town of Windsor Police Department expressed gratitude to the community for their support during the ongoing investigation. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit, together with Crime Scene Detectives, is currently working to determine the motive behind the attack and the events that transpired.
The case has also seen the arrest of two close relatives of Monjaras. His brother, 23-year-old Jesus Bracamonte Monjaras, was arrested on an accessory to felony charge and for carrying a concealed weapon, while their father, Guadalupe Bracamonte, was apprehended under a similar accessory charge. Jesus has since posted his $10,000 bail, and Guadalupe was released on zero bail, an information detailed by local police on social media.
Authorities have reinforced their call for any witnesses or those with information about the shooting to come forward. They can contact the Sheriff’s Office dispatch at (707) 565-2121 while maintaining anonymity.
