In a move to enhance digital competency among its residents, Cochise County Libraries introduced a new, complimentary online learning resource named Northstar Digital Literacy. This program is designed to assist individuals in adapting to the increasing online demands of work, schooling, and everyday tasks, which are crucial in today's digital-centric world.

According to a recent announcement, the learning platform is categorized into three key areas: Essential Computer Skills, Essential Software Skills, and Using Technology in Daily Life. These categories encompass a range of topics — from Basic Computer Skills and Internet Basics to Social Media, and how to engage in Career Search Skills, or even Accessing Telehealth Appointments, allowing residents to choose and revisit topics according to their interests and necessity.

For job seekers, particularly, the libraries are offering support for earning Northstar Digital Literacy Certificates, which can be an asset in the job market. The initiative is accessible through the public libraries in Benson, Bisbee, Bowie, Douglas, Elfrida, Huachuca City, Portal, Sunizona, Sunsites, Tombstone, and Willcox, with Sierra Vista residents also eligible to participate either online or by visiting any of the participating library locations.

The service is made available through the support of the Arizona State Library, with funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the federal Library Services and Technology Act. For those without a library card, options are provided for both a full-access card and an E-Resource card that offers access to digital resources, though not physical items. This latter can be upgraded to full-access at any library, with the appropriate identification and proof of address.

Residents can learn more about Northstar Digital Literacy by visiting their local library or the Cochise County Library's official website. To apply for a library card or learn more about the services by phone, Cochise County invites residents to call the Library District at 520-432-8937 during regular business hours.
