An investigation is currently underway after a car crashed into Oakland’s Lightning’s Boxing Club yesterday, an event that shook the local community due to its potential impact on a youth-focused establishment. According to KTVU, the incident occurred overnight and resulted in considerable damage, including to the establishment’s boxing ring.
Kris Lopez, the owner of the club located at 5845 MacArthur Blvd, detailed to KTVU how a red Honda not only took down the front doors but also crashed into the ring itself. Moreover, a blue sedan with severe damage was towed from the scene, having been struck by the Honda before it entered the club. Fleeing before authorities could make their inquiries, the driver of the Honda remains at large.
In response to the trouble that befell the club, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support the community fixture's recovery. As documented on their fundraising page, Lightning’s Boxing Club has been a mainstay in Oakland since 2009 and plays a vital role in supporting local youth. The text posted on the GoFundMe page states, "The funds raised will go directly toward repairing the gym, replacing our damaged boxing ring, and restoring the space that so many young people rely on."
