The Coon Rapids Police Department has recently shone its social media spotlight on a fresh face in their Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (C.O.P.P.S) Unit, Officer Carlson. According to a post shared by the Coon Rapids Police Department, Officer Carlson is a new recruit who started with the Coon Rapids force in early 2023, following a three-year stint at the Lino Lakes Police Department.
Carlson's role history includes night shift patrols, DWI enforcement, and acting as a Field Training Officer. He also has strong ties to community programs, advising the Explorer Program and serving in the Cops and Cardinals mentorship program. Officer Carlson's commitment is not just to keep the streets safe but also to foster connections with the community, particularly those who are navigating their way through the complexities of life.
When not on duty, Carlson refreshes himself by diving into hobbies such as exploring new coffee shops, outdoor activities, and amateur photography—just a few facets of a well-rounded personal life. The officer, who amusingly still retains a baby tooth, firmly believes in being proactive about safety. "If you think you should call 911, do it," he told the Coon Rapids Police Department.
For those aspiring to serve in law enforcement, Carlson has clear advice: "Stay teachable, stay motivated, be a sponge, be a great teammate, build solid habits, and work hard to prove yourself." Emphasizing readiness to learn and diligence, Officer Carlson's mindset mirrors his approach towards his own career. His personal mantra, "Don’t be a victim of your circumstances—be a victor," as per the Coon Rapids Police Department.
