Honolulu police are searching for 37-year-old Tiofilusi Tongamoa, who officers now consider armed and dangerous after they say he broke free from custody and took off from an Aiea neighborhood over the weekend.
Authorities say Tongamoa was arrested Saturday at about 2:20 p.m. after allegedly assaulting his wife inside their Aiea home in front of their children, all under 14, according to KITV. Officers reportedly handcuffed him at the scene before he pulled away and fled in an unknown direction.
Honolulu police booked Tongamoa on a felony abuse charge and now list him as wanted for both felony abuse and escape. The department is warning the public not to approach him and is urging anyone who spots him or has information on his whereabouts to contact law enforcement immediately.
Tongamoa is described as Polynesian, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and roughly 320 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, according to KITV. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 808-955-8300 or, in an emergency, call 911. Police stress that the public should not attempt to confront or detain the suspect.
