The Denver Police Department is encouraging residents to take proactive measures to enhance their personal safety and security early in the new year. In a social media post released on January 3rd, the department outlined a "2026 Safety To-Do List," comprising several steps that citizens can take to help safeguard themselves and their property. Denverites are urged to sign up for reverse emergency notifications, register their vehicles with DenverTrack, enroll their bikes or scooters in a tracking program, and subscribe to district newsletters.
According to the Denver Police Department on a Facebook post, these initiatives are designed to ensure real-time alerts about police activity and offer tips on theft prevention. The reverse emergency notification system can send alerts through calls, texts, or emails, enabling residents to receive timely information about safety concerns. The police highlight this particular initiative as a cornerstone for being informed of any actions that may be necessary to take in response to local emergencies or threats.
For those with GPS or Bluetooth-equipped vehicles, the DenverTrack program offers a free registration service that aids in quicker vehicle recovery in the event of theft. Vehicle owners can sign up on the official Denver government website to take advantage of this service. Similarly, bike and scooter owners are prompted to register on Project 529, a site that specializes in bicycle security and recovery. It provides "smart theft-prevention tips" as part of its services to reduce the chances of theft and aid in the recovery process if theft does occur.
