The Denver Police Department has recently initiated an innovative approach to recruit more women into its ranks. The department's social media post announced the EmpowHER Police Academy, a no-cost program tailored specifically for women interested in pursuing a law enforcement career. Scheduled to run on consecutive Fridays starting from February 27 through April 10, the Academy promises a diverse and hands-on curriculum.
The seven-week course, designed by women officers, aims to give participants a comprehensive overview of the duties and responsibilities associated with police work. As the Denver Police Department post details, the curriculum includes experiences at a shooting range, a precision driving course, and the opportunity to quickly learn from women detectives about the intricacies of conducting investigations.
The program will also provide insights into specialized units within the force, such as the Mounted Patrol, Drone Unit, and Air One. Connections with serving officers of various ranks offer an invaluable resource for aspirants looking to explore potential career pathways. Application submissions for the program are due by January 23, with requirements including being over 21 years of age, possessing a valid driver's license, and passing a basic background check.
