
A serious injury collision occurred at the intersection of 15th Street and F Street in the East Village neighborhood, as per the San Diego Police Department’s (SDPD) watch commander’s log. The incident, which took place on January 24th at approximately 8:12 p.m., involved a 20-year-old male driving westbound on F Street at a high rate of speed in a Kia Optima. According to a press release from the San Diego Police Department, obtained by SFist, the young driver's vehicle crashed into a Subaru Forester driven by a 37-year-old male who was heading south on 15th Street.
The force of the impact caused the 20-year-old's Kia to subsequently collide with a parked Ford F-150, which was then pushed into a Toyota Corolla. SDPD's release detailed that "The front end of the 20-year-old male’s vehicle broadsided the 37-year-old male’s vehicle." A passenger in the Subaru suffered severe injuries, including a brain bleed and a ruptured diaphragm. Following the series of crashes, the driver of the Kia was arrested under the suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
This traffic incident is now under the investigative purview of the San Diego Police Department Traffic Division.
