A serious collision in Poway has sparked an investigation after one driver was hospitalized yesterday. Deputies from the Poway Sheriff's Station were dispatched to the scene at the intersection of State Route 67 (SR 67) and Ellie Lane around 5:30 AM, where they found a GMC Hummer that had veered across the median and collided with a fuel tanker truck, as per the information from the San Diego County Sheriff's Office news release.
The impact of the crash was significant, with the driver of the Hummer sustaining a head injury, subsequently transported to the hospital while the tanker truck driver reported experiencing pain but refused medical transport the HAZMAT teams quickly contained a minor fuel leak from the tractor portion of the fuel tanker, thankfully the leak did not involve the tanker trailer which could have led to a more severe environmental hazard.
Officials are keen to understand what precipitated this event, and the Poway Sheriff's Station's Traffic Unit is taking the lead in the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office news release indicates that no further environmental impact is expected from the incident. In their effort to piece together the puzzle of this collision, they are calling on witnesses with any relevant information to step forward and contact Poway Sheriff's Station at (858) 513-2800.
