Early Tuesday morning, a reported robbery at Security Jewelers in Duluth led to a swift response from local police. A man, identified as 24-year-old Jaquay Hassell, is accused of taking a watch from the store and fabricating that he was armed with a firearm, according to the City of Duluth.
Following the incident, Hassell attempted to evade capture by fleeing on foot. His escape was short-lived, thanks to the Duluth Police Department's K9 unit. Officer K9 Fitz and his team were able to track Hassell to a parking ramp where he was apprehended on the fourth floor, as per the City of Duluth.
A statement released by the City of Duluth confirmed that no actual firearm was found on Hassell's person during the arrest. The suspect is now being held at the St. Louis County Jail, with charges pending for Aggravated Robbery and Misdemeanor Obstruction pending.
