Early Monday morning, chaos ensued following a significant vehicular incident on I-10 East at Eastlake, resulting in complete lane closures and substantial traffic disruptions. The crash, which occurred before the rise of the sun, has been confirmed by the El Paso Fire Department to have left one individual with serious injuries necessitating transportation to a hospital, in a statement obtained by KTSM. The emergency call was logged just before 2 a.m., and the responders were quick to the scene.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reported the incident shortly after the 2 a.m. mark, and following several hours of painstaking efforts by the authorities, the lanes on I-10 East at Eastlake were reopened just as the clock closed in on 9 a.m. In addition to law enforcement, Special Traffic Investigators were observed at the site according to ABC-7, although there's been no official word on the anticipated clearing time immediately following the incident.
During the tie-up, which stretched for several hours, patience wore thin for commuters caught in the resulting snarl. The El Paso Police, taking to social media, warned the public that the affected stretch of I-10 East would remain inaccessible until further notice. Efforts to glean more information from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office by various news outlets, including CBS4 Local, have yet to bear fruit.
