El Paso residents can expect to see a mix of weather conditions this week, starting with a chance of showers on New Year's Day. The National Weather Service in El Paso forecasts a 40 percent chance of precipitation, mainly before 10 am. Cloudiness will hang in the morning hours, followed by gradual clearing and a high of 69°F. These conditions will be accompanied by increasing west winds, with gusts potentially reaching 28 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
As the city moves into the night, the skies are set to become mostly clear with a low temperature around 49°F. The west-northwest wind will continue to blow gently at 6 to 9 mph. The rest of the week promises to mostly offer sunny skies, with temperatures consistently high around 68°F to 70°F. However, it is worth noting that winds could occasionally prove to be strong, with some gusts as high as 30 mph, particularly on Friday.
The weekend continues this trend of favorable weather for outdoor activities. Sunshine will dominate Saturday, with calm winds and a high near 66°F. The night will bring only a few clouds and a low of around 47°F. Sunday sees a slight change, introducing partly sunny skies and a high close to 69°F, but winds will remain light and variable.
Starting the next workweek, El Pasoans should prepare for alternating clouds and sun with similar temperature patterns. Monday and Tuesday maintain partial sunshine with highs around 70°F during the day and lows near 48°F at night. However, by Wednesday, another chance for showers enters the forecast, pegged at 30 percent. Despite this, temperatures should stay near a comfortable 66°F.
