El Paso Community College (EPCC) continues to set the bar high when it comes to financial accountability, earning its 29th consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The prestigious honor, bestowed by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada, was celebrated during the January 2026 Board of Trustees meeting. The award, revered as the apex recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, was specifically for the fiscal year 2024.
With nearly three decades of accolades under its belt, EPCC is firmly committed to going beyond just meeting the standard accounting practices. They strive to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that thoroughly disclose their financial activity, allowing anyone who looks at their statements to immediately comprehend the information presented. "An extraordinary achievement that reflects the consistency, integrity, and an eye level care and accountability in managing the college's finances," were the words of EPCC President, Dr. William Serrata, according to EPCC News.
The award not only reaffirms the financial health of EPCC but also its role in providing comprehensive services to the El Paso community, supporting student success, managing grants effectively, and fostering technological advancements. Finance & Administration/CFO Fernando Flores took pride in his team's effort, stating, "Nothing earns and maintains the public's trust more than good audit results and receiving recognition from GFOA in reporting excellence!" EPCC News announced.
