In El Paso, New Year's festivities came with a serious crackdown on impaired driving as the El Paso County Sheriff's Office deployed its Multi-Agency DWI Task Force to quell the tide of those who might have otherwise taken the wheel under the influence. A considerable operation involving the coordinated efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the El Paso Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and El Paso County Constables, took to the streets in an attempt to ensure safety for all in the community.
Undoubtedly, the scale of the operation was vast and so were its results. With 35 individuals arrested over the course of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Morning, the message was clear and decisive. These arrests included 26 charged with Driving While Intoxicated, with others apprehended for various traffic-related offenses and outstanding warrants, according to a social media post from El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte.
"These numbers reflect exactly why we continue to put resources into these operations," El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte conveyed, underscoring the gravity of the issue. "Choosing to drive impaired puts innocent lives at risk. Our message is clear: if you drink and drive, you will be arrested." Through his words, the Sheriff acknowledged the embraced collaboration amongst agencies and expressed gratitude for their concerted efforts toward a singular goal of public safety.
