Eric Norman, known for his experience in both local law enforcement and military service, has been sworn in as a sergeant with the Elizabethton Police Department. The ceremony took place yesterday in the City Council Chambers at Elizabethton City Hall, marking his promotion and continued commitment to the department and the community.
Norman has served with the Elizabethton Police Department since January 2024, previously holding the rank of corporal. His duties included working as a school resource officer, extending his role beyond regular patrols. According to the City of Elizabethton, as a sergeant, Norman will take on the role of field supervisor for one of the department’s patrol shifts, a position suited to his experience in core law enforcement responsibilities.
Before joining the Elizabethton Police Department, Norman spent around 10 years with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. During his time there, he advanced from corrections officer to patrol lieutenant, gaining a wide range of experience in key areas of law enforcement.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Norman has served in the Tennessee Air National Guard for 17 years, currently holding the rank of master sergeant. Department officials note that his combined experience in supervision, patrol duties, and the military provides practical skills that will support him in his expanded role within the Elizabethton Police Department.
