Brace yourselves, New Orleans drivers: upcoming construction on I-10 could slow down your commute. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced a series of partial and full ramp closures affecting both westbound and eastbound lanes between Bullard Ave and Louisa St, as well as on and off ramps at Morrison Rd and Chef Menteur Hwy. The roadwork kick starts on January 11, at 8:00 PM and is expected to reach completion by January 16, at 5:00 AM, with the provision that the weather plays along.
Specifically, travelers can anticipate to encounter recurring right lane closures from January 11 through January 15, starting each night at 8 PM and ending by 5 AM the following morning. Guardrail installation is the need for the roadwork, during which time the right lane will be off-limits to vehicle traffic. Meanwhile, full ramp closures at the Morrison Rd interchange will occur on the nights of January 12 and 13t and again at the Chef Menteur Hwy interchanges on January 14th and 15th, during the same nighttime hours. Detailed information on these traffic disruptions can be found on the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development website.
As drivers might need to seek alternative routes during these interruptions, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has provided a detour via US 90 (Chef Menteur Hwy) to mitigate some of the traffic headaches. All closures are slated to enable crews to safely install new guardrails, a necessary measure for enhancing roadside safety. The closure and detour schedule has been set to minimize disruption during peak traffic hours, but commuters should still anticipate some congestion and plan accordingly.
