Charlotte County Libraries and History are opening doors to the past with their invitation to the public to explore an iconic piece of Florida’s scientific heritage. The historic Cookie House, once a core part of the Bass Biological Laboratory, stands as a testament to marine research's formative years on the Florida mainland. According to an announcement from Charlotte County, this storied structure was built in 1931 and is presently the sole survivor from the original facility.

To preserve this piece of history, the Cookie House was moved in 2006 from its original location on New Point Comfort Road to Cedar Point Environmental Park. From Jan. 23 through March 27, visitors can see the house in person every Friday, and on Saturday, Feb. 14, during Lemon Bay Fest, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Staff from Charlotte County Libraries and History will be available to answer questions, while interpretive banners explain the building’s contributions to early marine science. Visitors can also explore Florida’s natural environment and learn about conservation at Cedar Point Environmental Park, located at 2300 Placida Road in Englewood.

The Cookie House is now open to the public, offering a chance to explore history while highlighting the importance of supporting scientific research and environmental care. Visitors can stop by on Fridays or during the special Saturday opening at Lemon Bay Fest.
