A Sunday afternoon dispute at a Federal Way apartment complex ended in deadly gunfire, leaving a 44-year-old man dead and a tight-knit community on edge while police search for the shooter.
Officers and medics rushed to the scene and tried life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the complex. Federal Way police say the suspect took off before officers arrived and has not yet been found, as detectives work the case and talk with witnesses.
What happened
According to KIRO 7, officers were called to the Celebration Park Apartments at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18. When they arrived, they found a 44-year-old man with a single gunshot wound. Officers and medics provided first aid on scene, but he did not survive. Detectives stayed at the complex into the evening, processing evidence and interviewing witnesses, the station reports.
Police: Dispute preceded the shooting
Federal Way Police Department Cmdr. Kyle Buchanan told the Kent Reporter that the violence started with a fight between people who knew each other. “The incident is believed to have started after subjects known to each other engaged in a fight,” Buchanan said. The suspect is still outstanding, but investigators say they do not believe there is an ongoing danger to the broader public.

Detectives are now piecing together what led up to the deadly encounter and are asking anyone with information to come forward, as reported by Fox 13 Seattle.
