In Fishers, Indiana, as the nation braces to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the local government invites residents to turn this commemorative day into a day of proactive service rather than a day of passive observance. The Fishers Indiana Government has put forth a call to action with four specific ways for the community to engage on the MLK Day of Service, according to their recent social media post.
The city has woven together a tapestry of service that includes donating to a community food drive, which is running until January 16, with drop-off points located at various public venues including the local YMCA, and City Hall. Additionally, volunteers can immerse themselves in agricultural stewardship by participating in a communal onion seed planting event at Fishers AgriPark scheduled for Saturday, January 17. Furthermore, on the day itself, volunteers are encouraged to gather at local Kroger stores to collect donations and provide assistance to those in need.
A unique and creative endeavor to spread Dr. King's enduring message involves the crafting of personalized "I Have a Dream" yard signs. Residents can stop by the Fishers Parks HQ anytime through Friday to design these signs, which are intended to resonate with, and remind the community of, King's vision of hope and unity.
