The City of Fort Lauderdale has partnered with Southern Underground Industries on a stormwater pipe replacement project following the April 2023 flood, according to an official city news release. Funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the project includes excavation and pipe replacement, as well as the restoration of swales, driveways, sidewalks, and pavements.
Residents in several neighborhoods, including Edgewood, River Oaks, and Melrose Park, are scheduled to be affected by the project, with maps and information provided through the city’s announcements. Construction began on January 5, except in Melrose Park and Riverland Village, where work started on February 2. The city anticipates project completion by spring, though timelines may be adjusted due to weather or other factors. Work will take place Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The project will involve temporary lane closures and additional traffic signage, though driveway access will remain open. Residents can direct questions or concerns to the designated neighborhood contacts: Deborah Cueva, Juan Carlos Samuel, Steve Plummer, Joshua Roberts, Scarlet del Valle, and Istvan Virag, according to the city’s plan for the water infrastructure improvements.
City officials acknowledge that the construction may cause temporary inconvenience and ask for residents’ patience. For more information, residents are encouraged to contact the Fort Lauderdale Customer Service Center at 954-828-8000 or email [email protected], according to the City of Fort Lauderdale.
