Fort Worth's city council is getting down to business with a work session on February 3 that will cover a variety of community-impacting topics. At 1 p.m., council members will take their seats in the City Council Work Session Room at City Hall, located at 100 Fort Worth Trail, to delve into several key issues, including housing tax credits, an update on council priorities, and the placement opportunities for students.
According to the City of Fort Worth, the 2026 recommendations for the 9% Housing Tax Credit applicants, slated to aid in affordable housing developments, will be a prime subject for deliberation. With Fort Worth's growth, the internship programs for college and vocational students, which could bolster the local workforce, as well as discussions on infill development, are also significant on the agenda, as housing and economic development often go hand in hand in urban planning.
There's more on the docket for the council members. They'll be briefed on the Panther Island Public Improvement District and a proposed zoning change for properties at 5329 and 5335 E. First St. in Council District 11. Both items reflect Fort Worth's ongoing conversation about district-level improvements, zoning for growth, and maintaining neighborhoods.
Residents who have a vested interest in how the city manages increasing flood risks should also pay attention to the five-year update on the Floodplain Management Plan. Such updates are critical in ensuring that Fort Worth stays ahead of the curve in terms of environmental management and public safety.
