The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken the helm in a grim inquiry following the death of Shekela Woodard, 29, in Fitzgerald, as local authorities grapple to uncover the circumstances leading to the fatal event. In a recent disclosure, the GBI detailed the start of its investigation at the request of the Fitzgerald Police Department. The urgency of the investigation follows a 911 call made yesterday morning reporting a shooting during what has been described as a social gathering.
GBI agents are now sifting through the remnants of the evening that abruptly ended Woodard's life in what has been confirmed to have been a shooting at approximately 2:30 a.m. at the 100 block of Sullivan Court. Upon arrival, officers were met with a scene of tragedy: Woodard, struck by gunfire and beyond aid, her vitality irrevocably extinguished. According to the GBI's initial report, although there were revelers present at the time of the shooting, no suspect has been taken into custody, leaving the community to anxiously await further developments.
The GBI investigation into the incident on Sullivan Court is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward. Investigators encourage the public to share any information by calling the GBI Regional Office in Perry at 478-987-4545, the anonymous tip line at 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), submitting tips online through the GBI website, or using the “See Something, Send Something” mobile app.
The completion of this investigation stands to be a critical juncture for the local community and law enforcement. The GBI's findings will eventually be presented to the Cordele Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for further action.
