The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a man in Grantville. The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI’s involvement in the incident, which occurred last Thursday night.
39-year-old Daniel Olson came into contact with deputies after reportedly evading a traffic stop while driving an off-road vehicle and then barricading himself inside his Greenfield Lane home. Deputies, aiming to deescalate the situation, left the scene to obtain arrest warrants for Olson.
Shortly before 9 p.m. that evening, authorities received a report that Olson had left his home armed with a handgun. According to the GBI, a deputy in the nearby Meadowbrook Lane area encountered Olson, who allegedly fired multiple shots, prompting the deputy to return fire, resulting in Olson’s death.
Emergency services, including Coweta County Fire and EMS, responded to the scene, and Olson was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The GBI emphasized that its independent investigation is ongoing and encouraged anyone with information to contact them through their tip line or online submission platform.
The results of the investigation will be submitted to the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
