A young man from Georgia lost his life in a traffic incident that occurred in the pre-dawn hours on Ohio's Interstate 71. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Charles Watkins, a 23-year-old from La Fayette, Georgia, was operating a 2023 Honda CRV heading northbound when the vehicle veered off the road and overturned multiple times. The accident took place near the Morrow-Lebanon exit in Turtle Creek Township, as reported by FOX19.
The crash, which occurred around 4 a.m., had fatal consequences for Watkins. After being ejected from the vehicle, he landed in the southbound lane and was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by WLWT. Authorities indicated that he was the sole occupant of the car and that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. A determination on whether drugs or alcohol were involved has not been made yet.
Several local agencies, including the Warren County Sheriff's Office, the Warren County Coroner's Office, Turtle Creek Fire Department & EMS, and Jacob's Towing, assisted at the scene in a cooperative effort detailed by WLWT. The tragedy has prompted a full investigation by the Warren County branch of the highway patrol to ascertain the cause of the crash, which remains ongoing.
While authorities have not immediately suspected the involvement of alcohol or drugs, they continue to search for answers. "No alcohol or drugs are suspected in the crash," a patrol official told The Enquirer. Further updates on the investigation are anticipated as more details become known.
