In a tragic unfolding of events early Friday, a woman died after she had exited her vehicle to assist with a crash on Interstate 84 in Weber Canyon, as reported by KUTV. According to Utah Highway Patrol officials, the woman notably crossed a barrier and subsequently fell from a bridge near mile marker 90.
Lt. Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol shared with KSLTV, "During the time that they were there to help, the female passenger ended up going over the side of the barrier on the side of the roadway. They happened to be on a bridge and she fell." The authorities were still trying to piece together the circumstances that prompted the woman to cross the barrier.
Details from FOX 13 News further clarified that the incident occurred as the woman was attempting to render aid during an earlier crash. The fall, which took place around 6 a.m. near Mountain Green at Horse Shoe Bend, resulted in the unfortunate closure of the canyon in both directions to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
Following the incident, traffic flow through Weber Canyon faced significant disruptions. By 8 a.m., the canyon had reopened, albeit with lane restrictions on westbound I-84. Commuters were urged to expect heavy delays, stated KUTV. Eastbound lanes remained open while the Utah Department of Transportation continued to only allow one westbound lane to operate during the continuation of the investigation.
