Over the weekend, the Goodlettsville Fire Department (GFD) demonstrated the critical importance of emergency training during two successive medical calls at a local business. As reported in a social media post by the City of Goodlettsville Fire Department, first responders were swiftly dispatched, taking pivotal actions that resulted in stabilizing both patients. The commitment of the department to advanced life support was highlighted in this unexpected double emergency, showcasing the seamless efficiency trained professionals can provide.
According to the department's account, while one patient was being cared for and loaded into an ambulance, a second call for help was issued, underlining an urgent situation that demanded immediate attention. Here, the fire crew's adaptability took center stage. They quickly evaluated the new patient, and amidst the need for privacy, utilized the back seat of a fire engine for the patient examination. A quick response from a GFD paramedic, who performed an advanced procedure, was critical in resetting what developed into a very serious medical event.
The GFD's capability to offer paramedic level, Advanced Life Support care, particularly within a small fire department context, is a testament to the City of Goodlettsville's deliberate investment in emergency healthcare. As noted in the Facebook post, the city has made "a conscious decision to budget for adequate funding to hire and train in the department."
The recent events reflect not only the ethos of the Goodlettsville Fire Department but also the essence of community resilience. As the department's post recognizes, "All of our families travel these roads and experience the challenges of life in this small community. Having such a high quality safety net can and often does, make all the difference between death and living for our loved ones another day."
