A recent investigation led by the White Pine Police Department has resulted in the arrest of a Greeneville man, who served as a youth minister. This man has been charged with the serious offenses of statutory rape and sexual battery by an authority figure.
Identified as 48-year-old Wesley A. Brobeck, he was engaged in what has been termed an "inappropriate relationship" with a 17-year-old girl. After having been informed of his conduct on Friday, Freedom Fellowship Church of White Pine, where Brobeck was employed, acted promptly and dismissed him from his position at their Greeneville campus, according to a statement obtained by WVLT.
Soon after the church notified law enforcement, the White Pine Police Department took immediate steps to investigate the claim. "Our thoughts are with the victim and their family during this difficult time," WPPD conveyed in a sympathies-laden statement which also emphasized their commitment to safeguarding victims and holding offenders accountable. Brobeck was then apprehended on Saturday night at his residence, WATE reports.
Currently, Brobeck is being held in the Jefferson County Jail, and it is at this time that White Pine police are seeking additional information that might shed further light on the case. "The department remains committed to protecting victims, thoroughly investigating allegations of abuse, and holding offenders accountable under the law," was a somber commitment made on Sunday by police, highlighting the gravity of this investigation. Out of respect for the victim's privacy, no further details by the WPPD will be released at this juncture, as WBIR has clarified.
