Students of Hawkins Elementary had reason to celebrate this past Friday, January 16, as their efforts in academia didn’t go unnoticed; they were recognised for their academic prowess in reading and math, receiving accolades from CREEED, marking them as one of the top-performing schools in El Paso County. The recognition comes amidst commemorations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an appropriate backdrop given that King’s values of service, perseverance, and equal opportunity resonate deeply with the educational strides taken by Hawkins Elementary, according to El Paso ISD.
In the midst of adversity, namely the recent water outage that impacted the community, EPISD's maintenance teams exemplified commitment; they logged long hours to ensure the schools remained operational and safe, a testament to the supportive underpinnings that often go unseen but are crucial for the smooth running of any educational institution, so said the district. This sense of service, detailed by El Paso ISD, underpins the spirit of the district's operations, ensuring that facilities are primed for the task of education even when circumstances bend towards the unpredictable.
Apart from celebrating achievements, the EPISD has been actively engaging with campus communities, visiting Hart Elementary, Canyon Hills Middle School, and Coronado High School, among several others. These visits serve a twofold purpose: to fortify the connection between administration, students, and teachers, and to immerse oneself in the diverse experiences that define each school’s culture, "creating opportunities to connect with students and staff and to better understand the experiences that shape each unique school community," as shared by El Paso ISD.
