Three people were killed and two others were injured Saturday evening in a head-on crash at the intersection of Northgate Boulevard and Del Paso Boulevard in North Sacramento, according to police. The collision happened shortly after 4:30 p.m., and emergency crews closed the intersection for several hours while they worked the scene. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, a third died after being taken to a hospital, and two other people were treated for injuries, as reported by the CBS Sacramento.
According to CBS Sacramento, the crash appears to have involved two vehicles in a head-on collision. Authorities with the Sacramento Police Department said they plan to release the names of those killed after next-of-kin notifications, and the station reported that the circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
Local station KCRA reported that three people were taken to area hospitals and that two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while one of the patients later died at a hospital. KCRA also noted that detectives stayed on scene canvassing for witnesses and that drivers were asked to avoid the area while investigators processed evidence.
Investigation underway
Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation and declined to confirm whether speed, impairment or other factors were involved. The Sacramento Police Department told CBS Sacramento that identifications will be released after family notifications and that anyone with information should contact investigators.
Where this fits locally
Traffic safety has been a recurring concern in parts of North Sacramento. In August 2025, a suspected DUI crash in the city also killed three people, underscoring ongoing worries about high-speed and impaired collisions.
Detectives continued to canvass the area and authorities asked drivers to avoid the intersection while investigators processed the scene. This story will be updated as officials release more information.
