A tragic single-vehicle crash in Hilo claimed the life of 20-year-old Logan Quintal on Sunday. The accident occurred at around 2:07 p.m. on Mahiai Street near Ahuna Road when his white 2017 Jeep Renegade veered off the road, hit a rock pile, and overturned, according to the Hawaiʻi Police Department.
First responders found Quintal unresponsive and pronounced him dead at 2:20 p.m. This marks the first traffic fatality on Hawai’i Island in 2026, as reported by the Hawaiʻi Police Department.
The Hawaiʻi Police Department is investigating the crash that killed Logan Quintal, with an autopsy planned to determine the cause of death. They stated that "speed, alcohol, and/or drugs are not believed to be factors in this collision."
