In a concerted effort to maintain the quality of life for its residents, the Holyoke Police Department recently made a substantial narcotics bust on Elm Street. The department's Chief, Brian Keenan, broke the news that law enforcement had seized an array of illegal substances during routine property checks on the evening of January 22nd. A post on the Holyoke Police Department's Facebook page detailed the incident and the arrest of Eric Garcia, a 58-year-old Springfield resident.
Around 5:50 p.m., detectives from the Holyoke Police were carrying out checks at 173 and 177 Elm Street when they encountered Garcia, who appeared to be trespassing. A subsequent search led to the discovery of narcotics on his person. Detectives found two bundles totaling 20 bags of suspected heroin/fentanyl, an additional 10 loose bags of the same substance, and approximately 38 plastic capsules that contained suspected cocaine. Garcia's engagement in the illegal activities on what one might assume to be a quiet thoroughfare highlights the ever-present vigilance required by law enforcement.
Following the search, Garcia was arrested and charged with several charges, including possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug and possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug. Furthermore, Garcia is also facing individual possession charges for both Class A and Class B drugs, as well as a trespassing charge. The Holyoke Police Department's swift action underscores their commitment to disrupting the flow of drugs in the community, according to the social media post.
