Police in Homestead have made an arrest in what they're describing as an attempted murder case following a grisly altercation. According to NBC Miami, officers were called to the scene on the 300 block of West Mowry Drive yesterday where they found a man suffering from serious neck and head injuries.
The victim was quickly airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center, as confirmed by Homestead police, and is now reported to be in stable condition. Local 10 reports that Miami-Dade Fire Rescue teams rushed the man by helicopter, highlighting the urgency of his medical needs following the attack.
Details emerged as investigators processed the crime scene, leading to the arrest of 38-year-old Urbano Berdugo. Police said Berdugo "had a physical altercation with the victim and after arming himself with a weapon he caused the severe injuries that the victim sustained." This information was outlined in a statement obtained by NBC Miami.
Local 10 provided further clarity that Berdugo had armed himself with a "blunt weapon" during the confrontation. Berdugo was arrested and is facing charges of attempted murder. Police took him to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without further incident just after midnight on the day following the attack. He is expected to make his first court appearance sometime today, according to the local officials.
