During New Year’s Eve and early New Year’s Day, the Honolulu Police Department responded to 592 calls related to fireworks violations, according to their official Facebook page. The calls were received between 6 p.m. on Wednesday and 6 a.m. yesterday.
Enforcing fireworks regulations during the holiday period required significant law enforcement activity. According to a Facebook post, two individuals were arrested for fireworks-related violations. Additional details on citations and arrests are expected to be released following coordination with the State Department of Law Enforcement.
Honolulu Police Department officers worked through the holiday to patrol streets and respond to reports, often missing time with family and friends. The department thanked both its staff and residents who followed the law during celebrations. In a Facebook post, HPD stated it appreciates “all of its officers and employees who took time away from family and friends during this holiday to keep the public safe, as well as those who chose to celebrate the holiday safely and legally.”
