Early Monday, in the predawn void of activity, a vehicle punctured the stillness by crashing into Quatman Cafe, a family-owned cornerstone of downtown Mason celebrated for its burgers and homestyle fare. Mason Police reported to FOX19 NOW that the incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. at 224 West Main Street, with fortune favoring an empty restaurant, thus no injuries were sustained.
In the aftermath of the crash, Quatman Cafe took to Facebook, declaring their resilience, "they’ll be open despite the crash." The crash happened to involve an intoxicated driver, per the restaurant's post. Fortunately, police confirmed to both WLWT and FOX19 NOW that no high-speed pursuits were preceding the event, nor were there immediately clear indicators of significant structural compromise to disrupt the cafe's operations.
Detailed information regarding the fate of the driver remained sparse as authorities continued their investigation. Details concerning whether the driver remained at the scene or what charges might manifest were held close to the vest, as reported to The Enquirer. The extent of damage to Quatman Cafe's facade is still under assessment, but early Monday, a tow truck, according to WLWT, had already extricated the car from the beleaguered storefront.
This isn't the first brush with automotive chaos for Quatman Cafe – a reminiscent incident in June 2015 saw a small Toyota brutally breach the building's envelope. Lamentably, the recurrent nature of these crises ties the past with the present, binding them in a shared narrative of disruption and repair – an unwanted rhythm in the life of this staple Mason establishment.
