
An investigation is underway in Crockett County following the death of an inmate at a local jail. Jennifer Hackney, 46, was found unresponsive in her isolation cell yesterday morning. Despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital, as reported by Action News 5.
According to FOX13 Memphis, the Crockett County Sheriff's Office said that they attempted to "to quickly revive her" using CPR and a defibrillator. Crockett Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and took Hackney to the hospital, where her death was confirmed.
Details regarding the cause of Hackney's death have not been released. However, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been summoned to assist with the case. The Crockett County Medical Examiner’s Office has also ordered an autopsy, which is to be conducted at the Middle Tennessee Regional Forensic Center in Nashville, as stated by the WREG report.
The sheriff's office emphasized the preliminary nature of the information, indicating that "this information could potentially change as the investigation progresses." They committed to providing updates as more details become available. Hackney's next of kin has been notified of her untimely passing, and the community awaits further information to hopefully shed light on the circumstances that led to her being found unresponsive, according to FOX13 Memphis.
