Piada, the fast-casual Italian chain known for its hand-rolled piadas and build-your-own pasta bowls, is officially on its way to the San Antonio area with two planned locations. One will land at The Strand at Huebner Oaks on the North Side, and the other is slated for Schertz along I-35. The company has not released firm opening dates for either restaurant.
Two Spots Picked For Alamo City Debut
As reported by The Business Journals, Piada chose the San Antonio-area sites as part of a broader Texas expansion strategy. Reporter Amber Serio notes that the Columbus-based brand has been eyeing suburban retail centers for growth, and these two leases mark Piada’s first confirmed push into the Alamo City market.
Schertz Permit Outlines The Build-out
A permit filing reviewed by What Now San Antonio shows a Piada planned for 18430 I-35 N in Schertz, taking up about 2,697 square feet. The filing notes that interior renovations were set to start in late September and wrap by early December, with a roughly $500,000 finish-out managed by a Lexington-based firm. An exact opening date has not been announced.
Huebner Oaks Site Sits In A Busy Retail Node
The Huebner Oaks location is headed for The Strand at Huebner Oaks, a center listed at 11225–11255 Huebner Road that already sees heavy daytime traffic and national chain tenants, according to LoopNet. Marketing materials point to the center’s proximity to I-10 and USAA as key traffic drivers, which makes the site a logical play for Piada’s chef-run, fast-casual format built around quick in-and-out meals.
What Piada Will Serve
Piada describes itself as a chef-run fast-casual concept centered on the piada, a thin, hand-rolled Italian flatbread that is used like a wrap, along with pasta bowls, chopped salads and sides, per Piada's website. The chain, founded in Columbus, Ohio, now operates more than 60 restaurants across several states, according to The Business Journals. Its open-kitchen build-out, featuring chef-run counters, is designed to move weekday traffic quickly in suburban shopping centers.
Fits A Broader Texas Push
Piada has been steadily growing its Texas footprint in recent years, opening locations in suburban markets such as Katy and Pearland, as detailed by Community Impact. Local coverage and leasing announcements point to a strategy that favors major suburban retail hubs and pickup-window-friendly layouts. That playbook lines up neatly with the choice of Huebner Oaks and Schertz for the company’s Alamo City entry.
No official opening dates have been posted for either site, and neither landlords nor Piada had released a public timetable at the time of reporting. This story will be updated as the company confirms construction milestones or a grand opening schedule.
