Jefferson Parish residents participated in the 2026 Christmas Tree Recycling event on Saturday last week, in Jean Lafitte, collecting over 3,700 trees. The trees will be used to build wave-dampening fences to help protect wetlands in the Barataria Basin from coastal erosion, as per Jefferson Parish Facebook page

The program provides an alternative to sending trees to landfills and supports local environmental efforts. By recycling the trees, residents are contributing to the protection of Louisiana’s coastal areas.

Jefferson Parish thanked residents and volunteers for their participation in the event. The annual program continues to be a community effort to support environmental projects and coastal resilience.
