
The Knoxville Police Department is reportedly in the midst of an intense search operation following an incident early yesterday morning. A traffic stop led to a man firing a gunshot while attempting to flee the scene. The event unfolded around 8:45 a.m., when officers pulled over a Land Rover on a suspected traffic violation near Linden Avenue and Van Gilder Street in Knoxville.
As per official reports, immediately after the vehicle was stopped, the passenger made an escape on foot. During the chase, the fleeing individual discharged a firearm. According to Knoxville Police Department's statement, there were no injuries reported from the gunshot and law enforcement did not return fire. The suspect, however, managed to elude capture and remains at large.
Following the gunshots, an influx of law enforcement surged into the vicinity, eager to nab the perpetrator. Assisting with the manhunt, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office’s AirWatch Unit provided aerial surveillance. Despite these efforts, the suspect's identity remains unknown, and he has yet to be located by authorities. The case has been taken over by KPD Homicide Unit detectives, who are actively following up on promising leads in the investigation.
