
A late-night confrontation on West Burnside Street turned violent early Monday when a man was shot during an altercation involving several people, according to Portland police. The shooting happened on the 400 block of West Burnside, and officers say the victim survived with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Police say the suspect was already gone by the time officers rolled up, leaving detectives to piece together what happened from witnesses, video, and anyone willing to talk.
What police say
Officers were called to the scene around 2:45 a.m. after reports of a disturbance involving multiple people, according to KATU. In the chaos, one man ended up with a gunshot wound and another person was pepper-sprayed. "One male was shot and another was pepper sprayed," Portland Police Public Information Manager Mike Benner told KATU. The shooting victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, and police say their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. By the time officers arrived, the suspected shooter had already taken off, and investigators are now asking anyone who saw the altercation or captured it on video to get in touch.
