A 60-year-old man died early Saturday after being hit by a vehicle on Lincoln Beach Boulevard in New Orleans East, according to New Orleans Police Department. The collision happened in the 11,000 block of the roadway, and emergency crews pronounced the man dead at the scene. Police said the driver stayed on site and is cooperating with detectives as the investigation moves forward, as reported by WDSU.
According to WDSU, the New Orleans Police Department confirmed the victim’s age and that New Orleans EMS declared him dead at the scene. The station reported early Saturday that investigators were working in the 11,000 block of Lincoln Beach Boulevard while speaking with the driver who remained there.
Where the crash happened
The city’s Department of Public Works lists Lincoln Beach Boulevard as part of an active roadway improvement project, and Axios New Orleans has reported on the long-running Lincoln Beach redevelopment and repeated delays in reopening the site. That mix of everyday traffic and ongoing construction can complicate crash investigations and traffic control when first responders are on scene.
Investigation underway
Investigators stayed in the area into the morning while officers documented the crash site and worked to reopen lanes. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with detectives, according to WDSU. No charges had been announced at the time of the report as detectives continued gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
