A fire occurred at ML Custom Woodworking on Cape Cod yesterday, prompting a response from Bourne firefighters. NBC Boston reported that the blaze at 150 State Road led local authorities to reroute traffic in the area.
Flames were visible in the evening sky, as shown in photographs shared by the Bourne Police Department on social media. The fire led to the closure of State Road from Meetinghouse Lane to the intersection with Old Plymouth Road, with all traffic diverted to Old Plymouth Road, the department said. Information on possible injuries has not yet been released.
Firefighting efforts were further complicated by a Tier 1 hazmat response due to chemicals present at the woodworking facility. Cape News stated that the fire, classified as a four-alarm incident, prompted additional units to join the response. Firefighters first responded to the call around 6:30 p.m.
The Bourne Fire Department returned to the site the following morning for a wet-down operation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and local businesses and residents are assessing the extent of the damage and disruptions caused by the incident.
