Early this morning, a significant disruption unfolded on the streets of East Nashville as a large fuel spill shut down a major thoroughfare. Details from WSMV reported a closure of Gallatin Pike from Curdwood Blvd. to McMahan Avenue, sparked by a fuel leak at the Circle-K gas station located at 4126 Gallatin Pike. The incident was first responded to by the Nashville Fire Department around 4:30 a.m., but it warranted a collaborative response with the Metro Nashville Police Department to manage the area's safety and traffic.
The spill appears to have originated from a tanker truck near Greenland Avenue on Gallatin Pike, as per information obtained by WKRN. Upon seeing that the tanker, which has a capacity of 2,600 gallons when full, began to leak its contents into the roadway, crews were dispatched to contain the spill. Unfortunately, no specific timeline has been given for when the road will reopen, and motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
Additionally, according to a FOX17 coverage, the tanker truck "burst open" in the vicinity of McAlpine to Riverwood, exacerbating the spill that extended to the road near the Circle K. The proximity of these occurrences and the ensuing chaos has tied the morning commute into knots, with residents and businesses grappling with the interruption with no immediate end in sight. While the immediate concern has revolved around logistics and traffic reroutes, thankfully, there have been no injuries reported in relation to the fuel spill.
