At approximately 12:43 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2500 block following reports of gunfire. The identity of the man was subsequently released by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office, identifying the victim as William Stanley, age 46. In an overwhelming situation, a security guard working nearby recounted hearing a series of gunshots to 11Alive, speculating that the altercation might have stemmed from a financial dispute.
Images captured at the scene depicted DeKalb County Police officers and cruisers congregating at a shopping center located just north of Interstate 20, where police presence was also evident through traffic camera footage. A white sedan was noted as being sectioned off within the cordoned area of the crime scene.
