Last night, the Marshall Fire Department conducted Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) training to improve readiness and ensure firefighter safety. The program focuses on quickly locating and rescuing firefighters who are injured or trapped during fires. “RIT is a critical safety function on the fireground,” the Marshall Fire Department said.
According to the Marshall Fire Department, the night began with a hands-on review of RIT bags and SCBA packs, covering components, air connections, and emergency procedures. Firefighters practiced using these critical tools and completed exercises on dragging and carrying downed colleagues from dangerous environments.
To enhance realism, the department ran blackout exercises simulating low-visibility, high-stress fireground conditions. “This training helps ensure our members can perform confidently and effectively when it matters most,” the Marshall Fire Department said.
Firefighters concluded the session by practicing their skills under blackout conditions, simulating intense fireground scenarios. The Marshall Fire Department praised participants, saying, “Great work by all members tonight. Training like this strengthens our skills, teamwork, and commitment to keeping our firefighters and community safe.”
