What police say happened
Chandler police were already monitoring the student march when a masked man arrived with what officers said appeared to be a handgun and “had multiple interactions” with student demonstrators, according to local coverage from KTVK/KPHO (AZFamily).
At one point, officers reported seeing a girl throw a water bottle at the man. He told police he planned to press charges, and the student was arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct, investigators said.
As the march continued, a white SUV pushed through the crowd at an intersection, prompting a Chandler motorcycle officer to park in the roadway to block additional traffic from entering the area, AZFamily reported.
